Two Thousand & Thirteen

The last job I did left a bad taste in my mouth and left me even more jaded than normal and very uninspired. I went from storyboarding 12-14 hrs a day 7 days a week to not drawing anything for 2-3 weeks.

The drawing to the left is a good representation of the mediocre poses I've been making in my sketchbook, elbows up and legs parted awkwardly. I wasn't especially enamored with the sketch, but it felt like it had been too long since I finished a drawing and I was feeling out of practice. The clothes were referenced almost directly from blogger/fashionista Keiko Lynn.

It got into the mid 40 degrees Celcius in Sydney recently, which is a problem because I really hate the heat. It was a lot worse when I worked more with pencil and paper, smearing a drawing and warping paper with a sweaty arm is a great way to ruin your day.

I found the sketch to the drawing on the top left on my hard drive, but the pose is so boring that I can't really remember drawing it. The only thing that I like in the picture are the lips.

Wow, looking at the drawing on the top right as a thumbnail, I see a resemblence to Groucho Marx. The nose looked fine before I added the glasses, I guess I need to regularly check my drawings as thumbnails to check for clarity.

Drawing three generic looking pictures is not the most exciting way to start a new year; I think making drawings specific is something I should aim to do in 2013.
