I don't know exactly why I like the picture on the right, but I do. Unfortunately, it started as a little sketch in Photoshop so it's not very high resolution.
The skull thing in her hair is an obvious nod to Yoko from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann which was an anime that took a few of episodes before I could get into it.

Yet another random Photoshop sketch that I spent way too much time on. Her expression was supposed to be kind of mischievous but she ended up looking kind of crazy, which is okay too.
